Shade-grown in Hangzhou.
Backed by modern analysis.
Crafted for daily wellness.
For centuries, matcha preparation has been regarded as both ritual and craft. Today, scientific research continues to explore the unique combination of catechins, L-theanine, chlorophyll, and antioxidants found within the whole tea leaf, and their potential role in supporting calm focus, antioxidant defence, and everyday wellbeing.
At PiPi Tea, we pair this tradition with modern quality standards, independent laboratory testing, and evidence-informed sourcing to bring confidence to every cup.
What's Inside Your Cup?
Because matcha is made from finely ground whole tea leaves, you consume the entire leaf rather than simply steeping it. This provides a concentrated source of naturally occurring plant compounds that contribute to both its vibrant colour and its wellness profile.

Our matcha is cultivated in Hangzhou, in an organic plantation
In the birthplace of matcha, Jingshan Town, the farm possesses 3,000 hectares of organic-certified tea. Warm and humid weather nurtures the tea leaves, with air and water quality meeting national grade standards.
Within the vast farm lands, testing is carried out yearly for quality checks. The leaves have passed organic standards by the United States, Germany, and China.
Shading Before Harvest
Large shade nets are utilized in order to deepen the color by increasing chlorophyll production and amino acid production 15 days before harvest.
As a result the tea’s profile highlights...
Fresh vegetal notes
Light umami, savoury flavor
Natural, creamy sweetness
What the Research Says
Cognitive Function
Matcha naturally contains both caffeine and L-theanine, a unique combination that researchers have extensively investigated for its effects on attention, alertness, and calm focus. Unlike coffee, where caffeine acts alone, the presence of L-theanine may help promote a more balanced state of mental alertness.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that the combination of caffeine and L-theanine was associated with improvements in alertness, attentional switching, and sustained attention, particularly during the first two hours following consumption. More recent reviews continue to highlight the synergistic relationship between these naturally occurring tea compounds and their potential role in supporting cognitive performance.

Antioxidant and Cellular Health
Because matcha is prepared from finely ground whole tea leaves, it provides a concentrated source of naturally occurring catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), alongside chlorophyll and other polyphenols.
These compounds have become a major focus of nutrition research due to their antioxidant properties and their role in protecting cells against oxidative stress.
Recent reviews suggest that tea polyphenols may contribute to cellular defence mechanisms by helping neutralize free radicals and supporting the body's natural antioxidant systems. Researchers continue to investigate how these compounds may contribute to healthy ageing and overall wellness.

Metabolic Health
Matcha naturally contains catechins, including EGCG, together with caffeine, a combination that has been widely studied for its relationship with energy metabolism and fat oxidation. Researchers suggest these compounds may work through complementary mechanisms involved in lipid metabolism and energy utilization.
While evidence continues to evolve, systematic reviews indicate that tea catechins may support metabolic health as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
